Appointed in January 2022 as the Interim Pct 3 County Commissioner, Marialyn Barnard has a solid background in supporting the county, state and federal government and advocating for all businesses. 

Marialyn has diverse experience and in depth knowledge of the community, she serves. As a schoolteacher, she worked in different school districts before graduating from St. Mary’s School of Law.  She served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and CPS Energy Corporate Counsel.

After serving for 9 years on the Fourth Court of Appeals, she learned firsthand the impact the County’s budget and policies have on individual lives. She has volunteered in numerous civic organizations including as a board member of Child Advocates of San Antonio.

She is married to Dr. Gary Barnard and has two adult children and four grandchildren.
